Jordon Valley Research Farm is a modern, leading edge research farm for Fonterra. The purpose of this farm is finding practical solutions to the challenges and demands of the modern day sustainable, environmentally friendly, intensive dairy farming unit. The farm is situated approximately 17 km north of the Whangarei CBD. Cook Costello was engaged to carry out the following for large feed pads catering for 600 – 800 hungry cows:
• Design and engineering plans of feed pads
• Design of effluent sump
• Resource consents – earthworks
• Full tender & construction drawings
• Tendering, tender evaluation & contract administration
• Retaining & footing wall design.
• Construction & civil engineering checks
The feed pad design includes all aspects of the modern day farm operation. These features include:
• Flood wash
• Quick release and easy access wash down points
• Flood lights for 24 hr feeding
• Clean water diversions
• Solids traps
• Over head boom wash downs
• Turning bays for troughs
• Easy clean down troughs
• Anti cow entry ropes
