Takahiwai Marae - DIY Marae 2010

Cook Costello was proud to be part of such an inspiring project.  The project took commitment, determination, Aroha, sponsorship and sheer hard work, made possible by the large number of local volunteers and businesses in Ruakaka and the wider area.

CCL would like to thank the Takahiwai Marae and Maori Television for giving us the opportunity to provide the following services:

• Architectural Design of the Marae "Master Plan"
• Detailed construction drawings and schedules
• Liaison and Building Consent application services
• Structural Design services
• Geotechnical investigations
• Structural integrity investigations
• Engineering Consultancy services
• Civil Engineering and building inspections for specific design of specialist footings
• Provision of Producer Statements

Concept Scheme Plan

Our role was to incorporate the ideas from the Marae members and Elders, to improve and extend the existing whare kai, and preparations for the long term extensions of the wharenui.

Some to the challenges that CCL encountered were:

• Making good of extisting structures
• Incorporating new roof design
• Wall height differentials
• Existing services and foundation and beam designs
• Footing design for multiple entrance options for the Wharenui that may be required in future
• Compliance obligations
• Ensuring that the design was achievable for the resources available in the tight time frames
• Co-ordinating tradespeople
