Striking Modern Barn Residence in Moore’s Valley
Structural engineering design for a multi-form architectural residence in Moores Valley
Set within the tranquil landscape of Moores Valley, this modern architectural retreat was designed to create a refined living space immersed in nature. Cook Costello were engaged by Raven Architecture to deliver the structural engineering design for this striking, multi-form residence.
The building’s complex geometry, expansive glazing, and combination of timber framing and structural steel required careful coordination between architectural intent and structural performance. Large portal frames, long roof spans, and open internal volumes demanded a robust yet efficient structural solution.
Our team provided:
Structural design for foundations and superstructure
Steel beam and portal frame design
Timber framing design and detailing
Producer Statements and documentation for building consent
Construction monitoring to verify structural integrity
Particular care was taken in designing the foundations and lateral load-resisting systems to support the ambitious glazing and open-plan layout, while ensuring compliance with New Zealand Building Code requirements.
Throughout construction, our engineers carried out site inspections to confirm the structure was built in accordance with design intent, ensuring long-term performance and durability.
The result is a structurally refined home that balances architectural ambition with practical constructability, delivered on time and aligned with the client’s vision.
