Set in Moores Valley, this modern residence paired bold architectural design with demanding structural requirements. Cook Costello was engaged by the architect to deliver the structural engineering design for a building whose complex geometry, expansive glazing and mix of timber framing and structural steel all needed to work together.

Large portal frames, long roof spans, and open internal volumes demanded a robust yet efficient structural solution.

Particular care was taken in the design of the foundations and lateral load-resisting systems, supporting the large areas of glazing and open-plan layout while meeting New Zealand Building Code requirements.

Throughout construction, our engineers carried out site inspections and provided technical support so structural details could be resolved clearly and the completed work could be checked against the design.
