Temporary Works (Scaffolding)

Upgrading critical infrastructure often requires working in challenging and high-risk environments. For this SH1 bridge over a fast-flowing stream in the central North Island, safe access beneath the structure was essential to enable upgrades to be carried out.

Cook Costello was engaged to design and inspect a complex temporary scaffolding system constructed above a confined waterway and steep rock banks. Although temporary in nature, the structure was required to safely resist construction loads, wind actions and seismic demands that may occur throughout the duration of the works.

Our structural team:

• Undertook detailed structural analysis of the scaffold system

• Designed bracing, support arrangements and load paths to ensure global stability

• Produced design documentation for construction and site coordination

• Carried out inspections during erection to confirm compliance with the design intent

The result was a stable, compliant temporary works solution that enabled the contractor to proceed efficiently and safely, with no delays attributable to the access structure.
