Temporary scaffolding over a fast-flowing stream was designed for construction, wind, seismic and stability demands.
Even a temporary structure can demand serious engineering. To upgrade an SH1 bridge in the central North Island, the contractor needed safe access beneath the bridge, across a fast-flowing stream and between steep rock banks. Cook Costello was engaged to design and inspect the temporary scaffolding system. Although temporary, the structure needed to resist construction loads, wind actions and seismic demands for the duration of the works.

Undertook detailed structural analysis of the scaffold system
Designed bracing, support arrangements and load paths to provide global stability
Produced design documentation for construction and site coordination
Carried out inspections during erection to check alignment with the design intent
The result was a stable, compliant temporary works solution that allowed the contractor to proceed efficiently and safely, with no delays attributable to the access structure.
